Beginner’s Guide To Windsurfing

Windsurfing is a very thrilling sport. It is now popular all over the world. If you are eager to explore this sport, then here is a guide that can be helpful.

Choose a good location

You should first choose a good location to try windsurfing. The ideal location for a beginner would be a small lagoon or lake that is 100 to 200 yards in length across. It is easy to sail across the wind, so you should be looking for a place where the wind is blowing parallel to the shore. As a beginner, you will be able to sail out and sail in conveniently.

Condition of the wind

You shouldn’t go windsurfing if the wind is blowing stronger than 7 to 10 miles per hour. You won’t be able to handle the pressure. For you, a 3 to 5 miles per hour wind will be perfect. With experience, you will be able to handle stronger wind later on.

Practice on land

Before sailing on the water, you can try sailing on land first. You should get the wind’s pull on the rig. You should know how to assemble the booms, mast, and sail on shore.

You should first put the mast base in the sand, then haul up the sail. It should be allowed to blow downwind. You must position your feel on the centerline of the board to get a feel of the wind’s pull. Practice will make you confident to sail on water.

Prepare the board’s surface

The windsurf board’s deck surface has good traction if it is conditioned properly. The deck of a new board may be slippery. You should get a handful of wet beaches and rub them on the surface to make them less slippery. If there is no sand, just scuff up the deck using your bare feet.

Once you have practised and feel confident to go on the waters, you should try windsurfing. Make sure you have a friend or the instructor with you in case of any emergency. You need to practice a lot to learn how to keep balance. Once you master that, you will be able to sail properly.
